Before surgery report...
Kristen and I are season ticket holders to Ballet West, the season just started, but this fell into Kristen's "one more thing" category so my mom and I went to the opening night of the season and saw "The Tempest" It was really good. I think some of the choreography, originally done in the 80's, was a little too preoccupied with being modern, but it was a fun night, the best people watching venue EVER, man there were some interesting people.
Kristen thought it would be cute to take Mom and my photo before we left on our Mom/Son date... you may notice that I don't love posing for pics and feel obligated to make faces.

This next one is as normal as I ever can look.

and nope, I'm not standing on a box next to my mother! We had fun.
Next.... I was feeding him on Wed and had to pause due to an overload of cuteness to take a pic.

Ok, surgery report.
We had to report pretty early. They put him in what looked like a cute mini-gown, but it was supposed to be a boys top, but for Greydon it was a gown.

He did so good all day long considering everything he was being put through. Before the surgery he wasn't able to eat for a long time, and he was fussy, but not bad.
After a million signatures, explanations, and red tape Lynn came to take him to surgery, we couldn't go with.

Two hours and a greasy breakfast later the doc came out to report that everything had gone well.
The hernia we knew about ended up being pretty big. There was also a smaller one on the other side they went ahead and fixed now.
Apparently premie hernia repairs are horribly complicated and difficult. Only one or two surgeons will even do it. The procedure is pretty simplistic, except that everything is tiny and it is really easy to mess up blood vessels, reproduction tubes and all sorts of stuff. The doc said no one "wants" to do these and that they are never straight forward, there are always complications.
After the surgery he told us, it was as straightforward as these go and he was very pleased. He did find a second hernia and fixed it also as well as doing a circum-you know what.
Here we are after recovery heading up to Peds (later I kept hitting the 5 button on the elevator for the NICU instead of 4 for peds)

Finally we got to hold and comfort and feed. His little throat was pretty soar from being tubed, so it hurt to eat, but he was starving by now, so he would cry after every gulp. He was in a lot of pain and confused and so sad. He did not like coming out of the anesthetics. He would cry so hard that he would turn beat red and not breath for a sec. Trembling lower lips and real tears. It was sad to say the least.

The nurse said some people climb right up into the cribs with the babies sometimes. I didn't need to be told twice.

(I always was the baby of the family, my siblings will find it ironic that I made it back into a crib.)
He hurt enough that he was really only happy in someone's arms though, so he was held all day by Kristen, Mom, and myself, never "laying down" really after the first attempt.

Everything is still looking good and we should be able to take him back home on Friday morning. Some of his old nurses came to say hi and we ran into some friends from the NICU. It was weird to be back at the hospital again, I won't lie.
He is feeling crappy and is fussy, but it's such a sincere sadness that it is heart breaking. We are so excited that this might help him feel better over all though.

We're glad you made it through this hurdle and hope it helps.

I am sooo glad things went so well. You hate to put your kids thru the paien and discomfort, but it had to be done and he WILL feel so much better in a day or so. I sure wish I had been there to do my share of holding and comforting. Grandmas do that best. Keep us posted and we'll see you soon. Love to all
Woo Hoo!
Poor Baby. I hope he feels better soon.
I am glad everything went well.
He is darling.
Okay, first of all, those overalls are to DIE for! I just want to snuggle him right up. So sorry that he was in so much pain. Good thing he won't remember any of it. I've always wanted to climb in the crib with my babies. Mine's not a metal industrial make, so I think I might break it. Although that would make for an interesting post. . .
I'm glad all went well. I always love comforting my little one. Only now she doesn't like it as much, she a bit more independant. Happy day.
Finally a moment to get on line and oh yes you know big Sis would have a comment about the crib scene - little Wuggers!!!! But for real what a cool concept they have in how they care for kids and how they encourage the parents to be involved. Totally cool! Will have to see what I can do to make changes once I get involved in the nursing. Gotta go! Hugs and kisses! Shannon
