miserable little morning, forgive me if I complain

This morning they got him tubed, Greydon HATED it, they had to give him more sedatives to calm him down.

He continued to feel bad and his bowel movements showed as much. They did blood work and found out that to start with his hemoglobin counts were too low, so they had to give a transfusion to start with, not on the plan.

They did an x-ray, standard procudure, and the x-ray showed that his bowels were crammed full of air, not good. His white blood counts were low which can mean an infection, but more precise testing indicated there wasn't one.

We got all, and I mean ALL loaded up, took about 3 people from the NICU and went downstairs. Right before we went they did another x-ray, since he kept having some bowel movements mixed with the gas.

We got down to the surgery suite and started talking to the anastesiologist and then the surgeon. The surgeon didn't like what he was hearing. He does have elevated white blood cells, maybe due to a viral infection and was still distended, so they cancelled the surgery.

We got back up to nursery A, and his belly is even more distended and his bowel movements have gotten all mucuousy and liquidy, bad sign.

They put a new tube down to directly pump air out of his gut since too much air in the gut can lead to a lot of bad complications. They quickly took his breathing tube out, within an hour since he was looking like he was breathing on his own. And then he stopped breathing for a little, pretty much. They got him breathing again without re-tubing and got him on the nasal cannula.

They are starting anti-biotics to be safe. They took blood cultures from his scalp and stool samples to start seeing what grows and what he has going on in there.

That is where things stand for now. We'll post again later with pictures. Of course it's better not to risk complications during and after a surgery. Butit is frustrating that all of the tubing this morning will just have to be done again later and were a waste of time. All of the progress we lost by not moving forward with the feeding schedule, and the fact that Kristen kept telling people yesterday that his stomach was hurting, and this could've been avoided isn't putting us in the best of moods.

fun fun fun

Well that is just crappy.

There has to be a good reason that Greydon is having all of these set backs, and I hope we find out soon what that good reason is. My heart goes out to you and little "G". We will keep praying for all of you. Hugs and kisses all around.
