So much to cover

First, Luden's fix everything.

My mother's mom is the only grandma I knew, since my father's mother passed away before my parents even knew each other while my dad was still in the navy.

Grandma always seemed to have a box of Luden's throat lozenges in her purse. To my pint sized taste buds they sure tasted like candy, and I got to have one every now and then and felt pretty special whenever that happened.

To this day, if I can come up with an excuse, a box of Luden's will certainly find it's way into my shopping cart.

This bout of yuck and sickness was a little beyond Luden's. I drugged myself up as best as I could, even used this zicam stuff that made everything I ate for hours after taste like I was licking the spokes of a rusty 10-speed bicycle after a rainstorm. Kristen had to go into the pharmacy for some stuff and got me three different kinds of halls cough drops, and made sure some Luden's made it home also. I know! She really is that cool. Now, she did commit the unthinkable by buying the bag of Luden's instead of the box, but while I was still giddy with excitement seeing the Luden's at all she assured me she searched high and low and could only find the bag.... no box. Sorry Grandma.

The first day I felt human enough to hold Greydon again just happened to be the day I broke out the Luden's.... coincidence?

With the Luden's in Grandma's purse, and the duct tape and silver Rustoleum spray paint that Grandpa still swears by (it fixed everything!) they could've ruled the world. Grandma is watching from heaven now days, I'm sure she put that bag of Luden's into Kristen's cart.

After Greydon's last bath the nurse asked if we had any clothes we wanted to put on him.....???

We had been operating under the misconception that we had to wait until all of his IVs were out before we could do that, but apparently she seemed to think that they could work around the last one he had in his hand still. So we went to a couple of stores and found newborn sizes made to fit the baby of Gargantuo the Gorilla King, but certainly not a three pound preemie. We asked last night's nurse if she agreed that we could bring in clothes now, and she hemmed a little and then hawed once or twice before agreeing that it would be ok, so today we planned an assault on a couple of stores that I had been told had some good preemie fashion.

This morning, before our trip to Salt Lake, what should we see when we peeked into his bed?

CLOTHES! This baggy little number is a preemie size, and was so cute. We were excited to find a couple of things for him of our own.

But first Kristen got to hold him.

Tonight I got to hold him, and then we gave him a bath together, and his last IV had been removed!

He kept messing his hood up, and it got a little damp during his bath. So afterwords, Steve the respiratory therapist...

....agreed to let us see him without the c-pap hood or mask on for a little bit while he replaced and fixed the hood.

Our nurse, Linda...

.....warned us that his little nose was going to look like a pig snout from being in the c-pap, and she was NOT exaggerating. Whew, she assured us it would fix itself someday. I am going to post no picture taken straight on because they look, just plain wrong... but here are some without the hood.... ignore the nose... well if you can.

I told you.... and I avoided the really bad ones. It isn't as bad with the profile shots...

But we'll keep him, snout and all.

After his bath I got to hold him and dry him in warm blankets, which was fun. And after he got his mask back on it was time to put him in one of his little outfits from today. Actually, Aunt Ang met us at one of the stores and picked up an outfit or two as well, and tonight's ended up being one of those....

So on the way to the store I was picturing cool little outfits.

Again, as is often the case, what I had in mind as being a cool preemie outfit was not quite what Kristen had in mind... this is not a new quandary and a remedy usually presents itself,

today the remedy was not required.

Apparently the two manufactures of preemie clothes who realize that preemies are smaller than newborns read Kristen's mind and market themselves to the mothers point of view alone.

Preemies are only allowed to wear clothes that have something to do with anything that ends in "ies".

Duckies
Bunnies
Froggies
Doggies
Kitties
Sissies
Puppies
Woosies
Lambies

You get the idea.

In my head babies are miniature people. So they should be wearing clothes that people would wear. The guy who walks down the street in a footed kimono style jumpsuit covered in froggies playing hopscotch with duckies trimmed in a crocheted edge of a complimentary color is not someone I would like to dress my son to match.

I found this store that has great cool clothes. But they didn't have preemie clothes.

So tonight I got to hold him, we both got to give him his little spa treatment... and after?

We'll settle for "cute" for now, until "cool" becomes an option, and Kristen is looking the other way long enough for me to sneak on the black skull and cross bones skull cap I got him.

Hey, I found the blue stripe outfit, too, and it doesn't have anything "ies" on it. People, help me out, he should be a BABY with baby things for a little bit, right? Then he can be cool. Especially since he was early. It's like, I get the first 11 weeks to be cute and when he comes home he can be "cool". Most of the time. (Just for the record, the outfit on him has snails and worms, no "ies". Very boyish)

I agree with both of you. There is definitely a baby look that I like when they are newborns. They stay little for such a short amount of time you need to enjoy the "baby" look of their clothes. They can wear "cool" clothes their whole lives! As for the animals on the clothing .... it must be AVOIDED at all costs! At least for the girl clothes,( I have seen a few baby boys that could be acceptable)all girls get are bunnies and kitties.....YUCK!

Then when the girls are 6 all they want is Hannah Montana...double yuck!

He looks so cute in his "jammies". He looks like he is growing. I agree with Kristen, put the cute stuff on now and he can wear the cool stuff later. It's hard to realize he still needs the hospital for another month. It seems like you should be able to bring him home right now. It's also hard to realize he's almost a month old. Glad you're over your cold, Calvin. I wa glad to see him with the c-pap off and you're right, he fdows look like a little pig, but he's our little pig. and he's sill cute. We'll see you soon, Love to all.

O.K. gramma in Mi. says all "baby" stuff for a long time and when he can walk, jump, skip, hop and play in puddles he can wear "cool".
Sorry son, you're outnumbered and I can cry on demand so don't even go there!
Poor little nose; are we going to have to have a fund raiser for a baby nose job!?
Guess I won't buy him a Pooh and Piglet anything.....yet!
I saw some preemie stuff at Walmart; did you check there?
Love, Muzz
P.S. I have to tell you all of my R.S. srs. in our little branch are keeping Greydon in their prayers, even in R.S. meetings it's bless baby Barnum or little Greydon etc. They've really adopted him!

Great, I try to buy Mom off with the nice touching story of Gramma's Luden's, and NOTHIN'!

Really there's no point expending too much energy in the fight for cool, there are no "cool" preemie clothes anyway... But a long time before cool?....hmmm.... we'll have to see about that...

There's definitly a good balance between cool and cute. All I have to say is that I don't think I dare buy anything for this little guy to wear. No doubt, that either you or Kristen won't like it. Since, Kristen is blood, however, I'll have to please her first!! Sorry Calvin :)!

Greydon, you are welcomed for your jammies. You look adorable and I don't care that your dad wants you to have a skull and cross bone look.
