This morning we went to see Greydon first, of course. It was Kristen's turn to hold. He was a little grumpy, which normally when Kristen holds him isn't the case. When I hold him we've been all over the place. We found out that they have decreased his sedation medication to only when he really needs it. They want him to learn how to self pacify, which is a good thing... or more appropriately will be a good thing... eventually.
Then we came back up to Lehi to run a quick choir rehearsal before the choir sang "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" during sacrament meeting. We sang the DeFord arrangement, I love it. I got a lot of compliments during church and was told that the choir sounded great. That is always nice. I always pray that when the choir sings an extra angel or two will come down and sing along with us. It's all about the message and the spirit, not about professional singers hitting impressive notes. I truly love working with the choir, there are few things that bring the spirit as quick as a hymn. Today my throat felt good enough to sing along in sacrament meeting, I was very thankful.
I also taught Elder's Quorum today, I teach on fourth Sundays, when not hanging out during emergency c-sections that is. I missed the last time I was supposed to teach, and the time before that was a weird schedule for some reason. So it had been a while. I think it went well. I felt good about it. No one said "good lesson" afterwords so, perhaps only I thought it went well... hmmm.
After church we grabbed a bite and headed down to say hey to the ex Elder A. While we were visiting, Aunt Lori very deftly fixed the little p.j. pants that we had put on Greydon the day before. They were plenty big enough, but the elastic was a little aggressive. Five minutes later she had the elastic replaced with a perfect blue ribbon draw string! She mentioned that it wouldn't be hard to make some pants like that....and my mind started just spinning..."cool" might still be a possibility! I might have to try to find a little pattern and some hip fabric... nothing with chickies or puppies.
Then we went back up to the hospital to spend the rest of the night with Greydon. I was on deck for holding. Have you ever been a little sleepy and held onto a baby, and tried to stay awake? Not the easiest task. Kristen caught me dozing on film a couple of times. I try to avoid getting myself on film as much as possible, but she said I had to post this... and I am very obedient (Mother stop laughing).

Ok, here I wake up as he squirms a little and I start making that darn sushing noise I can't help making.

Kristen read him a book. I just erased a long paragraph trying to explain why this book and the stuffed momma and baby bunny that go with it are so special to us... it wasn't working. Take my word for it.

He did pretty good for me, much calmer than he was in the morning. He started to writhe around a little towards the end. Just before it is time to get back to the bed I always lay him in front of me for a minute so I can chat with him, look at him, kiss him and what not. While in that position it was made known the reason for his writhing. Let's just say hooray for elastic legged diapers. His back side made a multitude of trumps, but the dam held strong! Even the nurse was surprised at his impressive display. I told Kristen a while ago we needed to put a little mark on the bottles of milk that get created soon after eating a spicy meal. You know how on menus there is a little pepper next to the spicey dishes? I'm thinking that tonight's bottle should have had a pepper sticker on it, cause wow he reacted like he had eaten a big dish of Mexican food.
After his impressive display of diaper filling (which really is a very good thing) he was very calm and happy and just kicked back for a little while. He had to feel just a titch better.

I love this, even though his fingers just cover my finger nail, he has a pretty impressive grip.

This will be the only time in his life where it will be socially acceptable to wear the cutsie clothes. A 15 year old in froggies and duckies might raise some eyebrows. Let him get cutsie out of his system. I have totally missed your blog. I am glad I am back. See you in a few weeks (yes that is a threat.)
See, everyone wants him to do cutsie for a bit!
Some of the things you say Cal, as your mom, crack me up not to mention my first reaction being;"Hey, was I his mom or not?"
The pics are so awesome this day; and no more buritos young man!
As the time gets nearer for me to come out I find it harder, what's wrong with that picture?
Mark & Lynn called about 7:30 Utah time this a.m. in a panic because they couldn't get your blog to come up.... now that's family support! Love, Muzz
I love the pics! I think I comment about that every time..... My Girls love that book, its a classic.
I agree with Crystal on this one Cal, he's not 15 yet. If he wants to wear duckies and chickies at that age, then we'll talk!! Every time I see a picture I think he just couldn't get any cuter and then, lo and behold, the next picture comes and sure enough, he just keeps getting cuter and cuter!!!
I would like to just point out so far that all men polled think that cool clothes are totally acceptable... I think this is a gender thing.
Hopefully no one thinks that we are arguing about this, it's just funny how we think different things are adorable. To be honest Kristen and I actually think pretty similar on what are cute and cool baby clothes. I just wouldn't mind an outfit that didn't look like pajamas every now and then.
He is so darling. I love looking at all the pictures..I am glad he is doing well.
I don't know what it was, but I was having a heck of time getting on to your blog toda also. Kept saying pictures were downloading and then - nothing///Argh. I am really glad I talked to Kristen last night or I would really be in a panic, but I really want to see the pictures. That's what keeps me going. I am very envious of your mother being able to spend so much time with you guys. I guess my compensation is that I will see him more often. He's just growing so fast now. I love it.
