Doctor Visit

We went to the Doctor's office yesterday, or as I now like to call it "The Stabby Place".

Greydon now weighs 11 pounds 4.5 ounces and is 23.75 inches long with a 15 inch head. So, good growth.

The day before the doctor's visit I went down to the home health place and got a saturation monitor so we could do a 12 hour saturation test to see if we could officially get off of the oxygen tubes. Basically there is a little monitor that goes on his foot that monitors the percent of oxygen in his blood. They want a 12 hour test to make sure the levels are good through various activities, sleep being a common place to have low levels.

I say "officially" off the oxygen because about a week or so ago I got really tired of watching him claw at his face and the tube taped there. As I went to adjust the nasal plugs for the umpteenth time, and he started crying from just touching it I had a Dad decision moment and unceremoniously ripped/took it all off for a few days. He almost didn't get sent home with it anyway, was barely on a trace of oxygen and it had been two months, which is around the time they guessed we would be on it.

I knew I wouldn't fight too hard the tubes going back on later, but we only put it on him one time for a few hours between then and the doctor's office.

So with trepidation, hope and fear of what the test would show we hooked him up to the new monitor for 12 hours of data collection.

The machine had battery and plug power, for some reason the plug didn't read and it kept trying to live off of the battery only which only lasted 5 hours.... not exactly the 12 required.

I went back to the health office, took in the monitor, got the read out and then ran back over to the doc's office where Kristen was already waiting in the examination room.

I was very anxious when the doctor seemed quite disappointed at the 5 hour instead of 12 hour test. But the numbers were so good that he agreed to OFFICIALLY take Greydon off of the ocygen, and apnea monitors!

NO TUBES NO WIRES NO TUBES NO WIRES NO TUBES NO WIRES!! WOOOOHOOOO

We're a little excited.

Before we left though we had to watch them stab Greydon with long pokey needles three times.

We got approved for a great program called Synergis. Basically it is a serious of shots that act as a immunization against RSV. There is a limited supply of it currently so you have to get approved through a few different organizations and then through your insurance company because it costs $2,000 per shot, and there are 5 shots. But our doctor has never had a baby who gets it come in with RSV. They are trying to get it more available to the general public currently. We got approved due to preemie status. Right after the synergis mother of all needles he got two more immunization shots. Greydon doesn't cry much... until he gets multiple knife wounds (ok needle wounds) to the legs, then he cries and turns bright red and makes sounds that cleaves the left ventricle of his daddy's heart and makes his mom want to hurt the nice nurse, who actually did a really good job.

Did I mention NO WIRES NO TUBES?

NONE!!!
