Happy One Week Birthday!

HAPPY ONE WEEK BIRTHDAY GREYDON!

First, a couple of small random things, then today's health update, and then the big news...

Another great staffer, this is Joel, he made the "Wolverine" and the "Greydon" name tags!

Next, I rescued a dog, yes I am this cool, I can barely stand it.

We were coming out of the hospital and somebody had clipped their dog to a light pole by the parking lot. First of all I'm pretty sure that alone is against some sort of private property, hey this is a hospital not a park code... But more sad than that the sprinklers had come on automatically. The dog had wrapped himself around a tree and was drenched, and was just sitting there getting even wetter right in the middle of the sprinklers. Someone else was standing there and had sent someone in to call hospital security for the poor guy. He wasn't exactly a little dog, so maybe they were scared to go up to him. But he looked so pathetic. I dove into the water spray and untangled him from the tree making his lead long enough to get out of the water, then dove back in and had to figure out how to unclip the childproof clip that was on the end of it. He was a happy doggy. No one was coming so I clipped him somewhere else away from the sprinklers. I rule!

Next; We have great neighbors, and friends, and family. The other day a neighbor brought over some dinner at the best possible moment as we were slumped on the couch trying to figure out what to eat and still have time to get to the hospital during a scheduled "good" visitation time... perfectly timed and quite tasty!.... the same neighbor offered, and didn't let me refuse, to finish painting our front porch railing that I started working on before things got crazy and haven't got back to.... so so kind, and very well done I might add... There have been too many great acts of kindness to list, but this one I got a picture of!

Next; we went to a great class on Friday to help us learn how to best help Greydon develop properly. Many times things like this are common sense, but this was fascinating new information, really interesting. They have come a long way in just the last couple of years knowing how to help preemies develop. I'm not going to go over everything, but it was great.

Today's report. He is handling the feedings it looks like, he is doing ok with the nasal cannula but his heart has done a couple of things that freak me out. The heart rate drops to almost nothing and he doesn't breath and they have to rub his chest or back to jump start him again.... Can we say how much I hate watching that? It's called A's and B's. I wont embarrass myself by trying to spell what those stand for...It can be triggered by a few different things. If it happens 8 times in one shift they will put him back on a different breathing mechanism or take other steps.... 8 times? really? how about once?.... I'm a wreck.

You might eventually see some comments on her from a family friend who goes by AJ, not my sister-in-law. She has years of experience as a NICU nurse, so we welcome her insight.

Big News!?!?!

Grandpa and Grandma R came into town! They are back from Alaska. We picked them up from the airport and went right away to go see their first grandbaby! (Grandma hooked him up with some really cute things from Alaska, the duck duck Moose! onesie being my fav)

Where's Ang? you might ask, she is still in WA, I'm guessing she will have quite the tale to tell, I recommend keeping an eye for a new post on her blog.

It was great to see them react and interact a little with him, very precious and touching.

I know my parent's are seeing this and just turning five shades of green from envy... :)

We've had a lot of discussion about when G and G B will be coming out, since MI is so far away, they'll need to fly out, stay awhile, and probably not be able to come right back out again for awhile. So our current train of thought is to wait until Greydon is almost ready to come home before they fly out. Although, last time I talked to Mom (yesterday or so) I told her I gave him a little kiss on the head and told him it was from her (as per instruction)..... she was still crying by the time we hung up.... I think she is single handedly currently working on solving the elevated gas prices right now so they can come out whenever they want!

Greydon is so lucky to have so much loving family near and far. We've loved having everyone call or visit, and today was wonderful seeing Kristen show her parents her new baby...

(OK, I think I am turning into a really annoying cheesy happy happy blogger... I'm so sorry, I'll try to find something to be cynical about soon!)

Congratulations on his progress! I love the pictures, keep them coming! I don't know if you knew, but my sister was his nurse in the nicu the night he was born. (Don't worry she didn't tell me anything...(darn privacy laws..) I figured it out, and I don't know if she's taken care of him since....(she STILL can't tell me anything) but if she has she is the BEST nurse! keep the updates coming!!

I haven't been able to read your blog since Kristen's initial email to Rock Canyon (we've been sick). However, I just jumped on and read each day's message. I couldn't help but get teary-eyed and a frog in my throat thinking of the precious miracle that you now have in your family! What a blessing to have a knowledgeable staff to care for Greydon and Kristen. May God bless you and your family! A
