Happy Thursday I guess

So, quite the day.

Kristen went in to get the referral to the surgeon, it should have been a ten minute conversation. They could only meet with her in the morning, so we decided since it was only a ten minute conversation/appointment it would be fine for her to run over on her own since I had my favorite 3 hour math class..... well little did I know.

They asked her at the doctor's office if she had been dealing with hypertension, since that can affect fluid retention, which is what carpel tunnel is all about. She had had a few higher than average blood pressures, so they decided to take another just to see. Last time at the baby doctor it was around the high 130's? or so... and they said to just take it easy, which Kristen has been doing. Today at this doc it was 164/98... they checked it with a couple of different cuffs, and then strongly encouraged her to go see her doctor.

After the baby doc checked her out, 170/100, they sent her over to the hospital to get hooked up to a monitor. I got there as she was checking in, feeling incredibly guilty, the one appointment I don't go to....eghh.

It took quite a while to get her on a monitor since all of the rooms were full, by the time they took her first reading it had come all the way down to 150, then over the next couple of hours it hung out in the 120-130's.

They strapped on the baby monitors also, and Wolverine sounded good, but there were apparently two "dips" that his heart took that our doctor didn't like, so we stayed there for longer until he was satisfied that everything was ok.

The scariest thing was that the doc prescribed Kristen to start taking steroid shots to get his little lungs more developed in case he comes early.... It is just a "precaution" but obviously a possibility if they are preparing for it... we're only 28 weeks.... he can't come out to play yet.

Kristen also got blood drawn, she was a good little pin cushion. We have to go back tomorrow for more monitoring, and another steroid shot. We will then be going back Monday and at least twice a week. Kristen is on strict bed rest, she can get up to go the bathroom, and not much else. That is not very reassuring though since we have already been having her do very little since the first elevated blood pressure reading... there's only so little she can do. Luckily she just bought a big new book.

We were there longer than anyone expected so food began to be a slight issue. I went and got us some snacks at one point, then a few hours later one of the nurses brought us a bunch of little things, there was enough for both of us to nibble on. Kristen gave me a cracker and juice... I was eyeing the string cheese, as Kristen organized the yogurts, juices, and rice puddings, I eyed the string cheese as she slowly unwrapped the tube of dairy goodness, I peered over while eating my cracker as the first, third, and last bite went straight to Wolverine. That is right about when Kristen thought, huh, I wonder if Calvin would've wanted a bite of that. Apparently after 7 hours of sitting in a hospital the strangest things can cause us fits of laughter... I'm not sure what they thought looking at the monitors.....

As for the surgery, unlikely with his new complication, And as for bed rest, that means it is highly unlikely that Kristen will be teaching at all before Wolverine gets here... she's trying to act like she is ok with that.

Fun fun fun

You need to be taking people up on the helping stuff. When Chan was on bedrest my mom had people sign up for visiting shifts, usually around lunch time so that she didn't have to get up and make lunch. The peeps also brought things to do with them. Get a schedule going!!! I will be checking up on this!!!

Scary situation, even scarier when you are 250 miles away and want to be with your "baby". You are a good dad and husband and I'm sure you are taking care of her. I'm counting on it. You just never know what can happen. You just have to go with the flo. See you all next Thursday. Love to all.

Guess it wasn't a good time for Tiffany to purge her pantry!! She's out of town for the weekend and Haley is out of commission. Now what kind of aunt would I be if I expected them to come pick dinner up?? Thanks for rounding up the troops Crystal, you're a great friend!!
