Thankful

Kristen and I drove out and visited some friends we hadn't seen for a few months.

Scott and Amy are great and they have such a fun upbeat attitude. I don't mean that everything is happy cheesy sickly sweet happy that gets annoying after a little while, they just are very well balanced about things, even those things that kind of ..... well suck in my opinion. Scott is my buddy that had the brain tumor.

When we got there Amy told us they are pregnant! Which is great, it'll be there 5th, she was very sick while we were there and wanted to die. Scott was down stairs at first working on moving some stuff around, I went and helped after yelling at him to hurry up so we could chit chat.(sarcastically of course) His wheel chair was upstairs on the main level and he crawls around on any floor except that one. I hate watching him crawl, it feels like it is demeaning, but he laughs and jokes about everything and says that it's faster than me trying to balance him while he tries to walk. When he got to the stairs, they have double hand rails and he can use those to balance work his way slowly up the stairs, you can tell each step takes so much concentration. You can't pity Scotty, it would be out of place, but I can be impressed.

Scott and I go to the movies for guys night sometimes, Kristen and I are going to take him AND the four kids next time so Amy can sink into a couch for a few hours. I feel so lucky that Kristen never got sick and threw up once, let alone not being able to hold anything down and being sick multiple times a day... eesh,

Before I knew Scott he was really into art, we knew each other a long time before his surgery, but even then he hadn't painted or drawn for a while. After his surgery and as he started physical therapy (around 3 years now) I got him an art set, told him the kids couldn't use it and that I thought it would be a great way to practice fine motor skills, which are still crazy hard for him. He got them out recently and started messing around with drawing. That had to be so scary. Again-- I can only be impressed.

It made me think about the obvious blessings and yadda yadda blessing bessing, blah blah.

His trying to get back into art made me think about my feeble attempts. I'm not much of a tactician but I like to throw a brush at some paper every now and then. These are a couple of little water colors of mine. I have a 5x7 bound book of water color paper I take on vacation sometimes. One was while I was sitting on the beach in San Diego watching Kristen and Angela play in the waves. The other was at dusk sitting on the quay going into Utah Lake. Not a vacation, I was volunteering at a high adventure race and as the sun started to set the kayak's started to make it back from one of the legs of the race. More than the paintings I love that those memories are seared into my head from looking at every little detail as I tried to figure out where to stab the brush next.

Anyway.... I'm thankful I can even hold a brush and paint sometimes. I can't wait to see what Scotty creates as he works and practices. His first drawing he is working on is look good so far. I'll get him to let me post it when he's done.

Ahhh the paining of SanDiego is still one of my favorites. No, it is my favorite. Why don't you post the one from the hotel? That was a great one. Though you can't really capture all the greatness of that hotel, the painting was cool.
