Happy to be me

So Kristen and I found ourselves in the same car, a rare treat, at the Maverick gas station. Kristen ran in to get a treat, and having no will power, I hung in the car so I wouldn't get a treat I didn't need or really crave. Sitting there, enjoying the opportunity to do a little people watching, all I could think is, I am really grateful for those influences and circumstances that have made me who I am today. I don't claim to be too awesome, but I don't shove a 24 pack of Budwieser next to my baby seat, I don't smoke next to pregnant people, I don't act chemically altered while buying large bottles of...malt something, ok I don't know my alcohol but I know it wasn't apple juice. I have the ability to cope with my day well enough to not be one of 10 people ending their work day and getting the appropriate tools to numb themselves until another day, I don't have to scrape together enough loose bills to buy the cheap carton of cigarettes, and I don't look like a walking skeleton, the poster child for meth abuse, just radiating such a profound pervasive cloud of sadness and despair that made my heartache all the way through the windshield.

Self improvement, I'm all for it, but I'll take my wife and I just the way we are, giggle, and sigh a deep breath of contentment.

Next----- bumper pads, tell me what you think.

When the baby is new they can roll into the pad and breath their own carbondioxide apparently, and when they start trying to pull them selves up into a standing position you are supposed to take the bumpers back out so they don't stand on them and flip out. This seems like a relatively short window of bumper pad friendly nurseries, especially for how much the cool ones cost. We like the look they give to the nursery, but are wondering if we should skip them, just buy the bottom skit thing and random fitted sheets we like.... speak to me o thou wise and experienced.

Bumper pads are like clothes, some have 'em some don't. And while clothes "cute up" the person, some look fine with out them.

Okay I'm not wise but I do have some experience..... I have never spent more then 60 bucks on bumper pads so even if the window of usage is small it is so worth it! We took Raigynns off just a couple of months ago (she was about 12 months)and she now gets her legs all twisted up in the slats. When she is somewhat awake she can figure out how to get out herself but if is in the middle of the night we (or rather Mike) has to go in there to help her out... it is a PAIN to say the least! So my vote is FOR bumper pads!

Bumper pads were originally designed to keep the baby from getting his head caught between the slats. Regulations now make that almost impssible, but I'm with Tiffany, anything you can do to keep the baby from rolling into the bed or getting caught between mattress and bed is great. (and they do look darned cute. (and I'm also happy you are you) Love Ma

Congrats on finding out it's a boy!
I spent hours making way cute bumper pads for Kaitlyn's crib--they are adorable, if I do say so myself. I kept them in there until she started to stand because she definitely would have climbed out (which was about 6 months). Even though that wasn't a really long time, they were still cute and did dress up her room a lot. I didn't have any problems with her legs getting tangled in the slats. But it all depends on how active your baby is.
One other comment, babies don't start rolling for a few months.
Some take longer. Halle is almost five months and she is not rolling yet.

When Jerick was little and in a crib we had really expensive bumper pads, (Homer still won't let me forget it!) not once when I went to watch him sleep was he even close enough to the bumper pads, I think the blanket would be worse then the bumper pads. He just liked to untie them. He thought he was pretty smart. Hope that helps!

I had bumper pads on my boys cribs- until they were about 6 months. Then I took them off.
It swear one year- they say to have them and the next year they say don't have them. They change all the time.
They are cute. I think picking out the bedding and nursery is so fun.
