Last night I had the privilege of accompanying Kristen to her awards banquet where she was awarded her Golden Apple for being an outstanding educator. There was one winner from every school in our school district, all of their principals came, every PTA president from each school also came, as well as the district PTA board and some representatives from the school district main offices. It was fun. Each person was called up on stage while they read some words about why they were winning the award and some quotes from parents and students. I have the letter that Kristen's principal sent in, I don't have the comments yet, but I think I will have it soon, I'll post.
Kristen was the only teacher with such an impressive list of extracurricular activities she does for the school, I was very proud. She was also the only teacher who had a student quote that said she was "wicked" when they read that quote, Kristen made the appropriate "rock on" hand gesture with both hands and made everyone laugh.
I have been impressed with her dedication to the students for many years, I love her so much. Here is the letter.

Years ago, the Sears Catalog would list their products for sale in three categories: Good, Better, Best. If Kristen were listed as a teacher for sale out of that catalog, she would be listed in the: "The Best of the Best" Category.
She has done great things for the students and community at our school. Not only is she an outstanding teacher during the day, but for years she has volunteered to be our faculty representative for the Kid's Cause Program, where she helps students in our community who might need dental work, glasses, or new clothing. She also helps correlate the "Shop with a Cop" program during Christmas time.
Kristen also works as our school's Gifted and Talented representative. Each year she tests students to help identify their academic talents. She also helps students with the Sundance Winter Ski Program. I greatly appreciate all these extra work assignments that she has chosen to do.
Kristen really cares about kids. She wants them to be successful. She does what it takes to have a successful classroom with successful and happy students. She is really smart and also very funny and fun to be around. Just come and watch her perform the Mistletoe song at Christmas time and you will know immediately how many students in our school enjoy her talents.
I am grateful for her dedicated service as a true professional and caring teacher. She has touched many lives and helped many students progress to the "Best" category.
Thank you for being a wonderful teacher.
It is signed of course by her principal
I will post the list of comments from students and parents when I get a hold of them.
Congratulations Kristen!

Way to go Kristen, We are very proud of her too. She is really a very caring person, but somewhere along the line I have missed the Mistletoe song. I think she should sing it when we her next time.
Love Ma
Thanks for posting this. It is awesome and I think the title is tender ::tear:: She is a cool teacher. I wish I was lucky enough to have her for 5th grade. I wouldn't even spit in her coffee or put tacks on her chair.

That is awesome Kristen. I agree with the student, you are wicked!! I wish I would have had a teacher just like you. I can only imagine how fun you would make learning.
Do you have anything you'd like to teach me now!?!

How Fun! I have known Kristen was "Wicked" for almost 30 years now! I have to go throw up because I feel like an old lady for saying that!
Can't think of a more deseverving educator, (did I spell that right? Obviously mine weren't all that great!!). Way to go Kristen, you are the best! Personally, Eye of the R.M. is still my favorite, but having never seen the mistletoe song it's probably time I saw the new routine!!! Thanks C for letting us know, LOVE your blog!
Thanks for sharing. Kristen, that is awesome! I am jealous your students get to spend so much time with you. I love to be in the room when you get going, especially when Angela is at it too. You two are the funniest people I know. Congrats, and I can't wait to find out what flavor you are having.
